Neikame (nay-e-kam-e, Huichol Indian word) is Corn when she begins to burst forth from the ground. When Corn emerged, her voice was so tiny and pleading. She said “please tell the people to come and make offerings to me.”
The Locust heard the faint voice of Neikame and with his big voice was able to sing to the rest of the people so they would come and make offerings.
Contained in the seed of Corn is the design of her life gifted by the gods and revealed over time as she is nourished by the earth, watered by the rain, guided by the moon, sustained by the sun, touched by the winds and loved by the offerings of the people. And so too are the seeds of our kin.
I feel a special call in my heart to work with pregnant women and their children, both within the womb and after birth. It is our first initiation into life. It is so important to make that passage as empowering and peaceful as possible for mom and baby.
I work with women in my prenatal yoga classes to help them move out of their mind and out of fear, into an experience of surrender to the life force as it moves through their body on the breath.
I help women in my healing practice to move through fears, to ease discomforts and complications in pregnancy and to view birth as a spiritual event in their lives, rather than a medical one.
I work with Craniosacral Therapy and Energy Healing to unwind the body during pregnancy as it shapeshifts, during labour to ease and enhance its effectiveness and afterwards to speed recovery and release any birth trauma.
I belong to the Sacred Fire Community Lifeways Group called “Neikame,” whose purpose is to help people experience the sacredness of birthing, help calm the fear inherent in our current culture and encourage people to reconnect with and remember the value, wisdom, heart and joy in bringing life forth and sustaining it.
The Neikame Council
A visionary group of people with a deep calling to explore the sacredness of birthing, the council creates programs and resources grounded in a shamanic perspective and guided by the wisdom of ancestral traditions, the sacred spirit of Fire, the wisdom of the Goddess, and personal and professional experiences with this natural cycle of life.
