The core of the craniosacral system is the connective tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.
It contains the cerebro-spinal fluid in which your brain and spinal cord are nourished. This membrane is attached to the inner surface of your skull bones (cranium), surrounds the brain, covers the spinal cord, and then attaches to the sacrum bone (sacral) at the base of your spine: thus the name, cranio-sacral therapy. This core membrane is called the dural membrane, or dural tube.
